I forget if it was Motortrend TV or Auto Week, but those guys even mentioned it as well.
Next winter I’ll have to keep an eye open on what type of trucks are equipped with snowplows that clear out the Toyota dealers. I bet it’s not a Toyota, wouldn’t want to scratch or scuff the pretty paint and wouldn’t want to get it dirty and wet. Might rust and fall a part. |
I want to see some idiot try to enter their tundra in a pull contest. That'll be a riot. |
Say what you want. Like it or not, down here where rust doesn't get into the early Japanese trucks, those ancient, underpowered little compact trucks are still plentiful aound here. God knows how many hundreds of thousands of miles are on these old trucks. Most look like they've been to hell and back twice.
Interestingly enough, one does NOT see very many of the old early Rangers and S-10s on these same roads.
As for the current Tundra. While I find nothing about it, that screams BUY ME, I find nothing to dislike about it either. I won't buy one as there are several dealers now offering V6 5 speed Ford F150's on their lots WITH A/C, for right around the $13K mark. The Ford is simply the better deal at the moment.
Of course, my '97 safety orange F150, ex CODOT construction truck is paid for, so I think I'll just keep it. I only drive my truck when I actually need it to haul something.

My favorite thing about trucks down here is that all of the brands have to have their special "Texas" version. Wonder how many thousand dollars they tack on for the pretty "Texas" insignia on the back.

Well being from Texas is something to be proud of. If I lived down there (and I wish I did), I’d pay extra for a Texas version of something. I’d rather be in Texas then this backasswards socialist state of NY and deal with the hippies that reside here. NY State sucks!

Well maybe if you lived here you wouldn't feel the need to flaunt your assiness. It could just be implied.

Well, come one down. The only conditions are that you will NOT vote democrat, and that you WILL get your CCW permit.
Oh, and Austin is not a part of Texas. All of the S.P.'s have taken over the place, and has since been lost. Plans are to build a wall around the place, and lock 'em in.

We see plenty of Rangers and S-10 trucks around here that are older. Very rarely do we see a import truck that's older. Come to think of it, it's rare to see any import trucks. The import trucks that I do see are usually hauling absolutely nothing and look as though they haven't seen a dirt road.
And regardless. The ability to not rust does not equal the ability to withstand pulling and hauling crap constantly.
Like I said, I'd love to see a Tundra do some actual work. Imitating toughness, by doing commercials that could be done with any truck made in the last 20 years or more, with a southern style voice over going "Oh Dolly". having representatives prance around the tundra in tool belts that haven't seen a days work, and trying to make the tundra look like a MAC truck, with an interior that suffers from split personality disorder, does not equal toughness.
Being able to pull more than what the truck is rated for without breaking something does. Being able to be used as a farm truck with oil changes every 100,000 or so does. Being able to actually plow a foot or more of snow without having to add weight in the back or having the front end sag way down does. I've yet to see a toyota truck take on all these obstacles and do them well and still come out without damage. I mean comeon, when toyota has to bribe their own dealers to buy tundras instead of a Chevy or Ford for hauling vehicles and plowing, that's telling you something.

Ironically, the early Ford Rangers were not Fords at all, but really just rebaged Mazdas.

Not true. The Ford Ranger for the North American market has always been designed by Ford. In other parts of the world, it's a mix between the Mazda designed and the Ford designed, depending on what country you are in. Early versions of the Ranger were never just rebadged Mazda vehicles. In fact, starting in 1994, the Mazda B-series truck was essentially a rebadged Ford Ranger, designed by Ford. It's the complete opposite of what you stated. Mazda B-Series trucks in the North American market are rebadged Fords after 1994.

You might be thinking of the Ford Courier, which was a re badged Mazda.

Talking about Japanese automakers copying American automakers, look at these two vehicles and guess which one came first:

but the honda isn't even a truck... it's an SUV at best, I call it a car
it has a FRIGGIN UNIBODY
and the avalanche sucks too...
I think though that ford is falling a bit behind. GM has a huge electrical infrastructure in each vehicle. while GM LAN can be a pain for after market modification, it adds a lot of value to how the GM control structure works. FOR INSTANCE, in a 2006 silverado if you hit the towing button, it make the shift pattern change, it doesn't just drop the overdrive. FORD STILL JUST DROPS THE OVERDRIVE!
hell I think even dodge has a CAN system implemented which allows them to change the shift pattern via a tow button

My 02 Avalanche is the best vehicle I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few. Great reliability, versatility and I pull my travel trailer with it. The only thing I'd replace it with is another Avalanche. Based on sales, there are a lot of other people who like theirs also.

The bed liner is great for keeping stuff from sliding all over the place. I don't know what a ferring is. The Avalanche is somewhat polarizing. Either you love it or hate it. I love my Tonka truck.
