with the amount the yankees spend every year, 27 should have happened at least 5 years ago.

Do you think the Philadelphia Macy's is selling those premature T-shirts at a discount today?

Based on what we saw in April it's hard to believe they ended up with their 27th. Glad I toughed it out to see them do it.

Take your own advice, with your friend Mr Hand. The best you can manage.

Maybe baseball needs a salary cap, so that other teams can win the World Series just like your Chargers have won the Super Bowl, just like the Browns, the Lions, the Knicks, the Clippers.... The Marlins have 2 championships since the Dolphins last saw anything. The Indians have 2 pennants, Tigers have 3 pennants in the Super Bowl era, the Lions and Browns zip.

Doesn't seem to bother you that your Angels (where'd the avatar go?) win the AL West year after year. Is Moreno going to stop his spending?

The Yankees return their investments to their players, the other owners put it in their pockets: why do you think baseball owners won't open their books? If their fans knew how little they returned tothier businesses they'd never come out. better to whine in the papers about how the Yankees buy everything.

Bottom line, eat your hearts out. 26 in the old house, 1 and counting in the new.

Exactly. When Big Stein bought the Yankees, they were wallowing in a giant bowl of crap thanks to CBS. He invested a lot of his own money in the team - sometimes (maybe often) not well - to build his franchise. He didn't whine about his poor revenue stream, he didn't call for rule changes, he set his mind to winning. It took a few years, but he succeeded. And, in the process, he set the foundation for a revenue juggernaut that's won 7 championships since he bought the team.

It's not like the Steinbrenner family are the richest owners in baseball. Carl Pohlad was pretty much the biggest tightwad in the game. David Glass isn't much better. Kevin McClatchy and his successor David Nutting are quite content to pocket the additional money generated by revenue sharing and the shiny new stadium that the fine people of Pittsburgh paid for.

Why do the Yankees have all this money? Because ownership has done everything it can to leverage the fact they operate in the biggest media market in the world, as well as the brand name, at very significant initial cost. The last part is the linchpin - people like Pohlad aren't willing to do that, despite vast personal riches.

So, in short, wah wah wah wah.

Some people haven't caught on to the fact that professional sports (and even college sports, especially football) is big business and not the intramurals, nor a socialized welfare program. If they weren't spending the money to attract big talent, there'd be just as much screaming.
