Perhaps you missed my list on the last page of 50 songs they played on September 4th.

Have they played Primal Scream's Come Together yet? Granted, it's over 8 minutes long, but I'm sure the passive listener can handle something over 4 minutes. Cool

Is Priestly live during the am shift?

If not, he's very convincing.

Sounds much more real than the typical sxm voice track. I can only listen briefly in car on way to work, but his invitation to call the sxm 90s hotline for requests sounds genuine as opposed to the other decade channels that have one of those pesky 800 #s that the voice trackers only use to ridicule the callers.

Yup he's live and also interactive on Facebook throughout the show. It's really a breath of fresh air when he's on.

Okay, boys, you've shamed me. I admit I seldom listen to the '90s channel and hadn't added to the
list for a long time. Well, today I added ten whole songs! Among them is Jill Sobule's I Kissed A Girl (67/1995), not to be confused with the Katy Perry song with the same title.

The '60s channel has been adding a lot of songs in the past few weeks. As of July 2010, the '90s channel is supposedly adding more songs too...but the list is up to only 616, so please don't ask me to testify in court! I have been adding a few titles though. One of the recent additions is Paula Abdul's Rush Rush---a number one hit! Why wasn't it played for a year and a half? Yikes!

The 90s has been a very difficult decade to program (even pre-merger, I suspect that most everyone here would have called it the poor sister of the other decade channels).

When you look at the early 90s charts, you get a lot of dance crossover (which is OK), a lot of AC crossover (inclusion of which in a nostalgia/oldies format, which is what the decade channels basically are, being controversial), and a lot of country crossover (which is generally verboten in these formats).

Move into the rough 1994-98 period and the charts get dominated by alternative rock crossover ("Black Hole Sun" was a top 10 song, remember); the issue is that you can get a pretty good summary of that from Lithium (and Lucy was poppier than Lithium, making things worse... Lithium does seem to favor Mainstream Rock tracks to Modern Rock tracks (it looks like most songs in the Lithium playlist charted higher Mainstream than Modern)) and, until a couple of years ago, a Hot/Modern AC channel like The Pulse/Flight 26/Mix had a lot of those songs at the core of its playlist.

At the very end of the decade you get the teen pop, but you could argue there was a reason no channel was touching that with a ten-foot pole.

You do have a consistent backdrop of hip-hop/r&b crossover that's ignored by the urban channels (too old for the current-based channels, but too new for the old-skool channels), so that means that a 15 song hour for 90s could be broken down as

4 rock crossovers
1 late-90s teen pop
2 early-90s AC crossovers
3 hip-hop/r&b crossovers
4 dance crossovers
1 wild card (country, novelty (Weird Al or a few others), straight-up pop or one of the above categories)

7 hip-hop/r&b/dance tracks starts to push you into rhythmic Hot AC territory and runs the risk of getting branded as an urban channel and the question then arises of why you're bothering to play the rock crossovers.

As we get less and less Crows (be it Sheryl, Black, or Counting) on Modern/Hot AC channels like The Pulse and if Lithium moves harder the pop-rock component can be increased and as nostalgia for the late-90s (or even pre-9/11) teen pop inevitably increases (imagine a period when budgets were balanced, the stock market was surging, nobody knew who Osama was, etc....) then I think they can probably move 90s into a sustainable composition:

4 rock crossovers
3 teen-pop
1 AC crossover
3 hip-hop/r&b crossovers
3 dance crossovers
1 wild card
