"Fifteen of the best"? Are these songs taken from Billboard's year-end charts...or are they just somebody's opinion of what the "best songs" were? I'd love to hear a countdown of the top 30 r&b hits of a specific week. I'm afraid the "15 best songs" of a particular year will just be songs we're all sick of hearing. Oooh, 1964 and My Guy; 1965 and My Girl; 1966 and When A Man Loves A Woman; 1967 and Respect; 1968 and Dock Of The Bay.....pardon my lack of excitement. Confused

With the exception of the majority of James Brown's songs, along with an occasional chart-topper by Bobby Womack, Slave, New Birth, Con Funk Shun, and a few other artists, most of the number-one r&b hits of the 1960s-70s were also big pop hits...and we've heard them played to death on FM oldies stations for decades. Hey, Soul Town, I wants a weekly top-30 countdown!

As mentioned, that countdown show on 60 seems to be a mix of songs from that year, not that week, which doesn't make sense.

Why can't Soul Town use the Top 15 or 20, which will easily fit in an hour for that particular week? There were many great soul hits from the 60s and early 70's that are not played on 60. Sound familiar?

Take a clue from Lou Simon's excellent countdown on the 60s channel..play the Soul hits from that particular week and include the songs we don't hear on Channels 6 and 7...Look at Billboard charts or the playlists of the great R and B stations at the time..WWRL,KGFJ,WOL. I'm sure it can be done.

The Countdown on 60 is lame..at least try to keep the songs within that week!

What really get's my goat about Soul-town is the fact that it should be re-named the "Motown Channel" that is all I seem to hear, but I really hope Sirius XM doesn't turn that into a all Motown one, and at the rate this companies music programing is going, it wouldn't sup prized me one bit, if I woke up and they did this Confused WHY can't Soul-town just use the R&B Top 40 Billboard Charts, after all they
did exist back then, seem to me, that would be a more accurate depiction of that period of time....who's in charge of all this music programing MESS taking place within this company Rolling Eyes

Last weeks countdown was from 1970. The number one song was Jackson 5 (I'll be there)

The Jackson 5 had four number-one r&b hits in 1970: ABC and I Want You Back were each number one for four weeks; The Love You Save and I'll Be There were each number one for six weeks. Of course that was back when Michael was black.

Number 1 song was STILL by the Commodores.

Note: If you record this, give it a 90 minute window.

Replay on tonight at 11:59pm est.

What a great countdown this was. The DJ does a good job giving the history of some of the songs.

I caught the tail end of the count down today. It sounded like they were saluting Martin Luther King. Good tunes I had not heard before.

Rebroadcast tonight at midnight ET

It is currently on as they are counting down this week 1978. Great tunes thus far. This will be replayed tonight at midnight. If recording, go for 1 1/2 hours to be sure you get everything.
