For someone who can't stand Pat St John, you sure seem to be interested in what he plays on this show. Not many channels on SXM let DJ's play anything outside of their regular playlists( excluding Jim Norton on the Boneyard)- let him play what he wants- some of us love this show because of that. If you want to get technical about this, Blues is actually the root for all music we listen to today- Rock, Rhythm & Blues, Motown, Disco and practically everything else. The Blues music of the 40's- 60's was the biggest influence for the British Invasion in the 60's which, in turn, influenced everything after that.

I thought the show was called Rockers Doin the Blues.
Marvin Gaye is NOT a Rocker. Purple Haze is not a Blues song.

Hey Mike, Thanks for your in-depth Blues history lesson. You can get technical about the Blues if you would like but I'm not.

And yes, I think PSJ sucks. But I've thought that for the last 30 years when I only heard him on FM. And now his show sucks on SXM on the 50's, Bluesville, and DT. Just my opinion.

Robert Randolph doing Purple Haze is not a Rocker doing the Blues. If anything its closer to a Blues guy doing a Rock song.

I've said before I think the show is out of place on Bluesville. If I was a big Blues fan, I wouldn't want to hear this show on my Blue channel. I think this type of show is much better suited to DT.

And again, Marvin Gaye is NOT a Rocker. Surely, you are not saying that he is?

Once again- For someone who can't stand Pat St John (and you said you were not a big blues fan), WHY ARE YOU SO INTERESTED IN THIS SHOW??

I will agree on 1 thing- the name of the show is misleading. This show started on Sirius way before the merger. It was a Sirius version of XM's Stone Blue that ran 1 hour every weeknight @ 11pm. It was discontinued after the merger. I kept emailing PSJ to find out why it was still listed on their website. He told me it was no longer on and needed to be taken of their webpage. On 11/3/10, I noticed he brought it back in a different format- it was just a 30 minute show where he plays a theme- Mostly songs from people who either were born or died on that day. On holidays, like Presidents Day, he will assemble a special show for the occasion. The info on the Bluesville page was never changed- since they play Stone Blue 3 times during the week, really no need to run Rocker's doing the Blues. So he just plays a cool 30 min theme show every day. I'll email him and ask him to rename the show just for you.

Mike, Why don't you email him ask him why he put Marvin Gaye on his "rocker" show? Honestly, its just bad radio from a lazy voicetracking DJ. I worked in the biz for 17 years and there are good djs , bad djs, and plenty in between. PSJ is not very good. but that is just my opinion. I'm sure PSJ doesn't care what I think about him. I'm not sure why you care.

You can be a cheerleader for bad radio and or you can be critical and point out when things don't sound right. Marvin Gaye is NOT a rocker doing the blues. PSJ must think that he is. Hey its his show, so he must be right.

So now you are saying that he's changed the show to just some sort of "theme" show. Thats the first I've heard of it. It doesn't have to be blues, it doesn't have to be rockers. What is the criteria then for this theme show on the blues channel? Birthdays, holidays? It just sounds like bad radio. I don't listen to PSJ 's rocker blues radio but if you go and post the list of songs here, I will give you my opinion.

It seems there aren't many people listening.

I record it every week night. Love it. It has gotten me more interested in Blues music since I have listened the past few weeks. Thumbs Up

But, as rgfudd correctly points out, much of the music on the show's playlist isn't blues. Are you listening to Bluesville's regular programming? I wouldn't call someone who listened to the show and came away saying "Wow! What a couple of great Marvin Gaye and Airplane tracks!" a newly converted blues fan.

Yes, this show has gotten me to listen to Bluesville off and on throughout the day. Mostly because I record beyond the half hour this show airs. Dance

Thats great that you are sampling a new channel. I recently discovered how much I like The Spectrum.

Did you happen to listen last night? A great set list- all Muddy Waters songs, who would have been 96 yesterday:

Paul Rodgers- Rolling Stone
Foghat- I Just Want To Make Love To You
The Amboy Dukes- Baby Please Don't Go
The Allman Brothers Bros- (I'm Your) Hoochie Coochie Man
Rolling Stones- Mannish Boy
Stevie Ray Vaughan- Close To You
Muddy Waters- Rock Me Thumbs Up

I can't remember when I last heard that SRV song from "The Sky Is Crying" Music

Kind of a double post as I wrote this on another thread:

On tonight's Rockers Doing The Blues Show (XM70 - Bluesville), they are playing all Bob Dylan written songs in honor of his birthday. 11pm-11:30pm est.

Curious to see if it will actually be Rockers doing Blues versions of Dylan songs or if it will just be Rockers doing Dylan songs with the Blues part being optional.

Off the top of my head, as an example, Clapton did a great Blues version of Don't Think Twice, Its Alright. That would be cool if it got played tonight.
