Wonder if they are being built by one of those "you're gonna make a lot of money" investment scams? Like all the wind farms there has to be a way to connect to the grid or they are totally worthless and a future junk removal and disposal problem.

Thats one tax that I'd vote for.

I agree with JK and TRG, as usual.

It's nice you agree on this subject, but I hope you realize the government actions that have virtually eliminated tariffs in this country, as well as in much of the Western World, are the brain children of John Keynes and Harry White. Both being instrumental in the post WWII creation of the IMF and World Bank which later spawned the creation of the World Trade organization. If you read up on all three organizations along with readings on Harry White and one Henry C. Wallace you will clearly see the events which have lead us to where we are today.

White and Wallace had connections with the Soviet Union. White actually engaged in spying for the Soviets and actually passed the plates to print Post WWII German Marks from the U.S. Treasury Department to the Soviets. These two characters were unquestionably Communists though Wallace later refuted his progressive socialist ways and actually became a Republican.

I would seriously like for you to read up on those guys and John Keynes. You should include everything you can find on the IMF, the Bretton Woods Agreement and Policies of the Federal Reserve Bank as related to those agreements and organizations. If you take in the history of all of the organizations you will find that everything which has brought us to the economic circumstances we have today have been at the hands of Democrats with exception of one act on the part of Richard Nixon which totally detached our currency backing from precious metals. I'm not saying that as a statement of sour grapes. It is just historical fact and the last knife stuck into the heart of America and our economy was done in 1995 by the likes of Bill Clinton and his administration.

From my viewpoint our trade deficits, our budget deficits, loss of manufacturing jobs over years, accumulated national debt, and current unemployment issues are all resultant of the Democratic Party, which in reality doesn't give a flip about individual workers or their circumstance. Though Republicans are often accused of being the driving forces behind a New World Order movement, it is in fact the Democrats in this country who have since WWI been taking this country in that direction.

The Energy Department was keeping a close eye on Solyndra during those crucial months – sitting in on board meetings as an observer as part of the loan restructuring, iWatch News and ABC reported Thursday. That raises key questions: Did DOE miss obvious warning signs of the company's troubles in the final months before its collapse?

Obama Bundler Backed Solyndra

In 2009, the Energy Department put Solyndra's application on a fast-track for approval, and announced the award with great fanfare. The generous terms of the government loan included the lowest interest of all the green projects benefitting from Energy Department help, iWatch News and ABC News found.

And as part of the deal, the Energy Department agreed that if the company went bust, private investors could recoup their losses before the government. Republicans in Congress called the investment "a bad bet" and said it "put taxpayers at unnecessary risk."

One of the lead private investors in Solyndra was an Oklahoma billionaire who served as an Obama "bundler," raising money during the 2008 presidential campaign.

The bundler, George Kaiser, has declined to comment. His firm, Argonaut Ventures and its affiliates have been the single largest shareholder of Solyndra, according to SEC filings and other records. The company holds 39 percent of Solyndra's parent company, bankruptcy records filed Tuesday show.

Energy officials have repeatedly denied allegations that Solyndra received special treatment, saying the selection process was even handed. Until two weeks ago, the Obama administration held out Solyndra as a model for its green energy program, which was devised to create jobs and spur investment in cleaner sources of energy. President Obama personally visited the Solyndra plant last year, and his Energy Department made it the first to win approval of a federal loan guarantee. The $535 million federal investment enabled the company to build a sprawling manufacturing facility.

between Obama running guns to the Mexican drug cartel and paying back his supporters with tax payer money, you'd think there would be more concern

Obama admin ignored warnings about Solyndra
By MATTHEW DALY - Associated Press | AP – 8 hrs ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — White House officials discussed the political ramifications of a possible default by a troubled solar energy company that received more than $500 million in federal loans, newly released emails show.

Emails released Thursday night show that Obama administration privately worried about the effect of a default by Solyndra Inc. on the president's re-election campaign.

"The optics of a Solyndra default will be bad," an official from the Office of Management and Budget wrote in a Jan. 31 email to a senior OMB official. "The timing will likely coincide with the 2012 campaign season heating up."

This is starting to look like SolarGate to me.
I am getting the sick feeling that Obama is just Kwame Kilpatrick cleaned up a little. Dems better get out front on this if he is another Kwame - they have already lost the next election because of him; so aggressive action on their part could only help bolster their chances going forward.

I really wanted Obama to do well when I voted for him; now I really want the Democratics to take the lead here and investigate this stuff without prejudice.

Your expectations are cancelled out by virtue of the fact the Democratic party was high jacked four decades ago by ultra liberals just like the Democrats today think the Republican party has been high jacked by the so called Tea Party.

Factually both parties have become a liability to the future of the United States. We can see this by simply going back to the 1800s and examining the language found in the platforms expressed on the part of both political Parties. Through those platforms it is quite easy to identify the points where things began going awry.

Both parties have always had their extremist, but sadly for the most part we have only the extremist engaged in mortal combat when the population wants or needs neither. There was once a time when the term "Bipartisan Agreement" indicated a reasonable meeting of the minds over minor points. Today, there is no such thing as a "Bipartisan Agreement" simply because it is impossible for the radicals in both parties to agree on anything. I cringe every time I hear the phrase bandied about because it means nothing. Each side complains about the other not behaving in a "Bipartisan" fashion when what they are really saying is there is no way either party is going to agree to anything.

Personally, I firmly believe common sense is not going to prevail until said time the ship of fools known as our Congress and whatever administration should exist, drives the country into a seriously deep recession or bankruptcy. Like a hopeless drug addict there will be no way up until absolute bottom is hit and the misery factor is so great it forces change.

We apparently have no one in government with the smarts to realize we have no choice but to examine every aspect of the nature of the government that has been created over the last 100 years and reorganize completely all departments with the goal to eliminate the duplication of responsibilities and to totally eliminate that which provides nothing of value. This is really the responsibility of the sitting administration and it is obvious there have been no administrations since before WWII that have even given minor lip service to exercising that responsibility.

Well it's still early JKE; the American Spring is not scheduled for another 6 months.

Once that guy from some place called "Texas" flames out we can get back to electing Americas first female Presidential tag team in Palin and Bachman.

Neither of the latter circumstances will happen. I cannot in my wildest imagination envision the disaster of having any combination of Palin and Bachmann being elected on the same ticket. Nutty and Nuttier! And whether anyone likes either or not, the Republican race will be boiling down to Perry and Romney, either of which can defeat Obama. The only question is who will be the running mate for either.

One of my dogs could beat Obama if the fool and his friend Axeldummy keep doing what they are doing. Anytime the most aggressive Democrat Strategist ever in the form of James Carville say's it's "Panic time" its over. You'll notice that Carville hasn't even come close to saying Obama is worth his backing or endorsement.

The Democratic party has needed to reinvent itself since before the time John Dean was made DNC chairman and that isn't likely with a nit-wit like Wasserman now holding that position.

There's a couple of new(they opened a 4-5 years ago) solar panel manufacturers here in NY.. Both were suppose to be hiring and expanding by now.. Neither has expanded, and word is one is close to closing its doors.

The Chinese are already undercutting our prices. They have cheaper labor, and the price of silicon has bottomed out. So I doubt any American solar panel manufacturer will be around much longer.

That's a major problem nowadays. Years ago we had a 10-15 year technological lead.. So we could build plants here and make the product here for 15 years or so here.. Then they would move overseas. Now? We don't have much of a lead anymore. The rest of the world is right on our tail. And if we're only going to get 3-5 years here they might as well build overseas right from the beginning.

I heard with this company Solyndra there was about $1 billion in private money investments too. Lots of people got their asses handed to them on this.

Well I tried to snitch myself off for calling President Obama a pindick here, and even though I was initially rejected for not agreeing to pay to snitch myself off to the the tune of 5 bucks I am happy to report that I have made a new friend!!

Quote:
Friend --

You're in for 2012: Welcome, and thanks.

Now forget everything you know about politics.

Because I can tell you that the next 14 months will be like nothing you've seen from a campaign. If we're going to win, we have to be tougher, smarter, and more innovative than ever before.

The President has a job to do, so he's asking each of us to take the lead in shaping this effort.

That work begins now in your community.

You GOTPers better be on your best behavior now - I'm, (actually my dormant email account for bs), in for 2012. Laughing

Yeah we had one that our incompetent Governess gave away the store here to open that closed down this Summer here too, (battery maker).

The business climate has not changed since the government decided to give these morons our tax money to waste: I'm sorry but no matter how much we may need green technology it is not worth a half a billion for a press conference full of empty promises and future bankruptcy.

This is a scandal Senor - there is no defending this once the facts are all flushed out. Most likely there are criminal accusations against the President coming from this one. Democratics must be peeing their pants about now.

I'm not defending anyone.. If there was underhanded dealings with this money, then throw them all in jail.

My point is since this recession started in 2007 many people are looking for these alternative energies technologies to be another 1990's, dot com, silicon valley type of jobs renaissance in this country again.. And this will get us out of our unemployment funk..

IMO that's not going to happen. No matter what technology we come up with the Chinese will be undercutting our prices within 2-3 years. We can't compete anymore.
