| It has been announced that American Top 40 70's/80's is returning to their corresponding Decade channels in a reduced form from the way it was a few years ago. So, with that being done I was just curious XM country fans, would you be interested in maybe a once or twice a week airing of vintage American Country Countdown shows from the 70's, 80's and 90's maybe on America or whatever? Just curious. Would lobe to get feedback from you. |

Well, I suppose it would be okay to have something like that. I know Bob Kingsley has done the countdown for years on the Country Music charts, and I would imagine that he would be the one that we would hear if this were to be. I like him, and the way that he does his countdown show.
That said however, it would also be nice to have just a regular coutdown show on one of the country channels, with all of the current music. I may find out every now and then what is the current #1 song, but that is just 1 song. Not all of the #1's are the best songs currently on the chart, so it just leaves me wanting more.
A countdown would be nice, as long as it didn't interfere with all the other shows that I want to listen to on the weekends. And that doesn't leave to much open space. _________________ Become a Fan of Country Dan Dixon. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&ref=ts&gid=370372025292 |

Yes! Now that Decades channels 7 and 8 are airing classic American Top 40 shows from the 70's and 80's, it's time for one (or more) of the Country channels to consider adding classic ACC shows (with Bob Kingsley or Don Bowman) to their lineup.
The person who's responsible for digitally restoring the classic AT 40 programs is also working with the classic ACC shows; so they ARE available -- if only some type of deal could be made. |

Yes; in fact I do. Please don't make me out to be a complete fool. I DO read the posts thoroughly enough to see WHEN they were posted.
However, since the subject is still being asked about, the posts aren't really old news. Maybe it's where they're being posted that is making the difference.
The fact is that to my understanding, even the person responsible for digitally restoring classic ACC shows is looking for some sort of deal to be struck with either satellite or terrestrial radio programmers to bring the classic shows back.
Old post or not, it is still a CURRENT topic.
Thank you very much. |

Yes, we all can see when topics are posted and we all keep up with them. By the way, what's this I'm hearing about a possible XM/Sirius merger?
I listen to the old "American Top 40" shows and enjoy hearing all the lower-charting songs that I almost never hear on the Decades channels...so it logically follows that I would want to hear old "American Country Countdown" shows too, especially when there are so many songs, even top-ten hits, that America (Channel 10) ignores. |

More information about this could be found at the XM website. It's been discussed on many fronts, most notably how programming would be effected (more channels added while weeding out the duplicates) and equipment changes (neither XM or Sirius customers will need to buy or upgrade existing receivers).
Yes, I also listen to the old AT 40 shows for much the same reason as yoou stated -- many of those "forgotten 45's" don't get airplay outside of AT40.
I was just starting out as a DJ on a non-AT40 station in 1975; my weekend airshift meant that I would completely miss the AT40 broadcasts on my local affiliates.
However, for most of the years it existed, American Country Countdown -- hosted either by Don Bowman or later by Bob Kingsley -- was not aired in the New York Metro area. The country music radio outlet in NY was lightswitch -- on again for a few years, and then off again for even a few MORE years. Currently there is NO country station in or near the NY Metro area. ACC with Bob Kingsley was last heard in this area as far back as 2000 on New Country Y107.
I am remaining hopeful that there will remain enough interest in ACC just as there is in AT40; and that TPTB on the XM Country channels will realize this show is worth having. |

Um....Tom? When I mentioned "talk about a possible merger", I was being facetious. It seems to me that I have heard something about it.
I have always said that the Decades channels and America and Soul Street should play every song that made the top 40 in their respective formats. Replaying the countdown shows is an excellent way for us to hear those songs, and it would be fun to hear all of a given week's 40 hits on a single program, because, after all, we would have heard those 40 songs if we listened to the radio back then. |

No need to be a douche. Bumping up old posts like that is frowned upon. _________________

Gilpdawg, I thought this forum was still relevant...but if you don't like old threads being bumped, I guess I should forget about bumping the "Ryan & the Dancing Bananas" thread: http://xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=1943 |

You're fine Thomps. I just saw a newb bumping up old posts and was making sure he knew that that is frowned upon if it happens too frequently, then he was a bitch about it. No worries. I was just trying to help the newb out. _________________

I would love to hear the old "American Country Countdowns" on America. What a great idea!
Like many of you I enjoy the old Casey countdowns from the 70s for the lower charting songs you hardly ever hear except for "It" |

| I started this thread over 3 years ago and 1 tiny item has changed since then. Bob Kingsley no longer is host of American Country Countdown, but DOES have a program competing against it. So, I doubt Bob would be interested in his past work being aired representing a competing product by name, and I doubt ABC wants to give Bob the same publicity. So, I doubt this ACC reruns will be available any time in the next decade or so on XM. |

Country singer/comedian Don Bowman was the original host of "American Country Countdown" in 1973. Kingsley produced the show from 1974 to 1978, then replaced Bowman as host. He left in late 2005 and started his own program, "Bob Kingsley's Country Top 40." Kix Brooks now hosts "ACC." So, if Kingsley would object to old shows being rebroadcast, then why can't XM produce its own shows? They have the old charts; they can start playing each week's songs, from #40 through #1. We'll show that ol' Bob Kingsley that we don't need him! |

The most amazing thing of all is you would think ABC would have learned it's lesson when in 1988 they didn't renew their deal with Casey Kasem, he left and went to Westwood One and started "Casey's Top 40" while the braintrust at ABC went with Shadoe Stevens to host American Top 40. 6 years after CT40 started, AT40 was dead.
So, ABC decided to set the wheels in motion and let history repeat itself again. |
