|
|
The rumors are out Tony Kornheiser is contemplating a comeback to DC area radio. Strong rumor leans towards Washington Post Radio (1500am/107.7fm), but also CC's WTEM or upstart Triple X ESPN are possible.
I wonder if XM would put some money towards old Tony K, who could fit somewhere on XMSN ? Not long ago he was on Extreme 152 through ClearChannel's WTEM, until he left for MNF. Links;

Looks like radio is at least another year away....
Kornheiser back on Monday Night Football
BY NEIL BEST
Newsday Staff Writer
January 10, 2007
After an inaugural season in which ESPN's "Monday Night Football" drew mixed reviews but strong ratings, the network plans to have analyst Tony Kornheiser back in 2007.
And Kornheiser is all for it. Early yesterday, he told Newsday, "If they would like to have me back, my inclination is that I would like to do it again."
By late afternoon, Norby Williamson, an ESPN executive vice president, confirmed that the network wants him, saying through a spokesman: "Tony's one-of-a-kind perspective was an integral part of our record-setting inaugural 'Monday Night Football' season. We are absolutely looking forward to his return."
There was speculation all season that Kornheiser was not a lock for '07, fueled partly by his own stated uncertainty. The availability of former Giant Tiki Barber was an added X factor.
Now, though, it looks like Kornheiser, Joe Theismann and Mike Tirico will be back intact after a season in which ESPN averaged a healthy 9.9 percent of cable households.
After a long career as a newspaper columnist, radio host and TV commentator, Kornheiser admitted the Monday night job was an adjustment. "I don't think that anybody is going to send my tapes to Canton for imminent enshrinement," he said. "I would like to be better at it and I think I can be and I'd like to do it again."
Kornheiser is a famously reluctant flier and said the travel was difficult but that overall he enjoyed the experience - to a point. "It was work," he said. "I don't think in terms of enjoyment, but looking back on it, I'm really happy I did it ... All things considered, it was really cool to do."
Kornheiser's chemistry with Theismann is a work in progress, but he said he believed it improved as the season went on. Kornheiser also is a supporter of ESPN's controversial use of guests in its booth - as long as the guests are well chosen.
After many years as a well-known media figure, Kornheiser said he was stunned by the added visibility the Monday night series gave him.
"I can't tell you how bizarre that feels because of what I started out doing," said Kornheiser, who began his professional career at Newsday in the early 1970s. |

| I don't get the love Tiki Barber is getting from TV programming execs. I've never seen anything out of him that would indicate he's going to be all that great on TV. |

Why would signing on for another season on MNF preclude Kornheiser going back to radio?
He could take his show on the road during football season. |

And this is how rumors get started. You have one guy who writes a column mention that XM radio is a posibility and they're off!!! Now people will start posting here about how they "heard" that XM was interested in Kornheiser. |

Don't get too excited, this could be any Wednesday (likely mid-February). This also doesn't mean TK's show would re-appear on XM. _________________ ~Td~

Well no wonder. DCRTV exposed them.
It would be tough to squeeze him back into the lineup. For some reason Clear Channel doesn't want to mess with the timeslots of Lex and Terry or the Monsters. _________________ -LFV

Too bad WTEM didn't get him back. With Clear Channel's ties to XM, we'd probably get the show too. I have no idea what Bonneville's attitude toward satellite radio is. |

Your guess is as good as mine. They only own 43 stations in the country, and don't house any major radio figures. I'm leaning towards "no" for XM. _________________ -LFV
