As do I. And, this just might turn out to be a big favor from XM. Because of all this, I was out around town testing streaming using the application 'fstream' on my iPhone, looking for alternate solutions to XM. It was great! No dropouts, very high quality. And the directory provided with the app has hundreds of stations in all genres. Since I only use the music content of XM anyway, I just need to select the equivalents and put them in a favorites list. The 3G and Edge coverage will be only slightly smaller than satellite, when you consider I don't do any off-roading!

$13 savings by dropping XM means I am defraying the $80 ATT iPhone fee - not a bad deal! Thanks XM management!

Still not working for me...

But now when I go to log in to get my Radio ID I get the following error message...

Quote:
Error 500--Internal Server Error
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.

Yes folks I crashed XM's servers! Smile (Yeah I know I didn't do, but it makes me happy to think so.)

I pasted earlier a note from xm saying I would have to pay for the premium stream. Lets pretend that I decided I would. I can't even do it if I wanted to.

1st pic is my accounts - one lifetime and one yearly. Both are XM Everything. Note that the lifetime doesn't have the option to add premium but my annual one does. So I clicked it for fun.

The second image shows a part of the resulting screen which says that account is not eligible to add the premium online - that I need at least an XM Everything account.... hello - thats what I have!!

Still hoping to hear back from then tomorrow.

Now if you want to hear something funny... for their iPhone client to be approved to be used on the AT&T 3G Network they are going to have to bring back the 64k stream! I am told by friends at Apple that they will not approve an application for use on the 3G network that streams at 128k. (They will however permit 128k streams over WIFI)

If this is true (and I have no reason to doubt my friends at Apple) then they will need to return the 64k stream or XM users will only be able to use the new iPhone application.

I don't think thats true per say.... I have nullriver's Tuner app and flycast on my iphone and i can access 128kbit streams fine in 3G mode and both of these apps were approved by Apple.

We have been picked up by Taylor On The Radio, which is one of the "radio insider" news columns which can be found at http://www.radio-info.com

Quote:
Sirius XM “Bait & Switch” on streaming?
Scott Greczkowski contributes a blog post at the Multichannel News “Satellite Dish” section about why he’s unhappy – after springing for the $499 “lifetime subscriber” offer by XM. That’s the one the satcaster dangled ahead of raising some fees (for a second radio in the same house) and changing its streaming offerings. Scott ran into multiple issues, and he uses the blog space to share all the correspondence, verbatim (warning to those with customer-service sensitivities). Eventually, he told Sirius XM he’d filed a complaint with the Connecticut Attorney General’s office. Then “within five minutes” he got a reply from Chief Service Officer Joe Zarella. But Scott says Zarella missed the point – customers like him are now stuck with a “crappy” 32k stream and not the better 64k stream. Also no sign of the promised new super-quality 128k stream. Greczkowski’s not buying the company line about Sirius XM being whacked by the new higher music streaming fees. He tells T-R-I he’s not the only disgruntled subscriber and there's even some movement toward a class action suit. The XMFan site has more, here. Read Scott’s ongoing conversation from hell here.

Thanks to Tom Taylor for picking up on this and reporting on it!

Download the iphone app. It works wonderfully and is less repetitive than Pandora. Call XM and tell them to eat it. Once the MLB app comes out with live audio I will be calling XM and telling them "I know you locked me in for a year, but I'm going to downgrade my contribution to you without notice. Refund my money and shut my radios off"

As of last night I was getting 128. But my sub says recurring. Don't let them give you policy horse S excuses. Tell them you know XM has done it for others, your subscription status says "PREMIUM" XM online and that's what you expect. Not the basic. Do not tell them you want to upgrade, the word upgrade implies you want added service. Tell them your sub says "Premium" and ask them to define what premium is. When they tell you 128 tell them you're not getting it. That's the approach that worked for me. If I so much as receive a bill for $1 from XM between now and next March I will be cancelling both radios instantly.

While I would like to get the 128kbps stream at no additional charge, not getting it will surely not cause me to cancel my XM service.

Scott's article on Multichannel News, as well as this thread are linked and featured in today's "Taylor on Radio-Info" column.

Let's keep up the good fight!

I have some meetings this morning (not SiriusXM Related) but after that I will be posting a draft of an email that you can use to contact the media (both local and national) about this issue.

For local it might not matter much, but if we can get a bunch of folks submitting complaints to the national media they will pick up on it.

Also I am thinking of alerting the enemy (NAB) about this and letting them pick up on it and have a field day with it as well.

I know a few of you have contacted me about a lawsuit, but I am who would only do that as a last option. Keep filing those complaints with the states AG offices if you haven't already.

BTW I should note I am still locked out from streaming altogether.

Question for the group how many of us are in the NYC area? Would you be interested in gathering at the Sirius XM Headquarters? I have a few ideas. Smile

XMRO on my Mac...."Alert...the url is not valid." I think I finally figured out what's going on. This is an April Fool's joke that started three weeks early. Right?
