cnn.com? There's way more than 8 little boxes on that page. It's a long page filled with flash banner ads everywhere. I don't want my homepage to take 5 seconds to load.

Nope, they "fixed" it about halfway through the day, but the first half of the day regardless of the browser it would auto-play.

With the latest versions of IE, you can install plugins, yes. My favorite things are flashblock and Adblock. IE allows you to systemically block flash, without additional plugins. May want to google it for whichever version you have.
