I remember a time Sirius updated the lineup and changed channel names but not the categories. I won't be surprised if that happens again.

Just by reading all of the FAQs the company posted on their website, it looks like the Sirius radios will be getting a full update:
http://www.siriusxm.com/servlet/Satellite?c=SXM_PageDetail_C&childpagename=SXM/SXM_PageDetail_C/OpenContent&cid=1283876166462&p=1283876166981&pagename=SXM/Wrapper

And it appears that everyone who has a Sirius programming package that isn't the standard Sirius Everything (people with Best Of, Music Only, Talk Only, Family Friendly, A La Carte) is going to have to refresh their activation signals.

http://www.siriusxm.com/pdf/RefreshingYourRadioAfterMay4.pdf

They even set up a toll-free number for people to call to refresh: 1‐855‐MYREFRESH

Looks like it will be a major headache for those using the inferior Sirius hardware Laughing

3 Comments:

#1: All the 'freeloaders' will be screwed as their radios update themselves and the unsubscribed radios will turn into dust with the 800 number, so Freddie the Freeloader, kiss your old XM and Sirius radios goodbye. It's an easy way to get more subs by forcing a 'hard update' on the hardware. Will these radios be able to receive only the 'leased channels' perhaps?

#2: I'm surprised the Clear Channel stations didn't get sent to channel 'purgetory' (like scattered all in the 250's) instead of keeping relatively low numbered channels!

#3: Didn't even see any super small print (8 pt text) listing the 'leased channels' at all. So are the leased channels going to start on May 4th or not I wonder? Do the leased channels have the 'rights' to online? They had a hard date to sign contracts with SXM, but I never read the date that they had to be active?

What time will the update happen?
Midnight EST?
Another time?
And what channels are going to be excluded from the older sirius 127??? channels radios?

The public service channels will either not be apart of this lineup change, or they are not listing them on the channel guide. I don't think SXM wouldn't list them, so I'm leaning towards they will be launched at a later date.

I would never expect those channels to be available for online streaming. SXM isn't going to pay for the bandwidth to stream these channels, unless they were being compensated for such (doubtful).

The leased channels will not be on this update, the article I posted from the local Salt Lake newspaper said that BYU Radio does not anticipate being on until probably just before football season starts, as BYU Radio will be airing the entire regular season schedule at least live as always, so we'll see them added sometime either in August or early September, and even then it could vary from group to group among those that got a couple even.

Have not seen listed anyplace where Sporting News Radio falls in all of this. I did the "insert old channel here" on the SiriXM page and it told me that XM 242 was moving to XM 208.

Anyone know anything on this?

I'm guessing "Sports Play-By-Play 3" currently on Sirius-127,XM-242 will soon be on SiriusXM channel 208.

ClearChannel has to agree to any channel number changes. They wouldn't agree to go to purgetory.

But we've seen an apparent loophole in their agreement that must not have specified they be grouped in with like channel categories. While they are in line with like channels numerically, those who scroll by category have to find the special CC group.

High five to XM on that one.

Its been like that for a while hasn't it? The minute XM lost the case against CC and created those duplicate stations the CC stations have always been in a special place on the channel guide.

Yes, nothing new there. Just pointing out that CC my dictate where in the channel lineup they are to be placed, they have no say in which category they are placed under.

Up until now, that category was just for the music channels. CC talkers have been in their respective Sports or Talk categories, but now the likes of America's Talk and Fox Sports Radio will enter the same category as commercial music channels.

Colby2448,

I agree that it's not a good thing when a channel you like gets "shafted" to "just" Internet from being over-the-air. However, please don't say that this is a sign that SXM doesn't "care about Christians".

I'm Jewish and, aside from 8 (or slightly more) days per year, we get (count 'em) zero channels devoted to music and culture for us. This happens even though the Radio Hanukkah regularly gets listener raves, whether in this XMFan forum or on its Facebook page.

In contrast, not only are there (until the forthcoming channel change, anyway) three (3) music channels devoted to Christian music, but there are also EWTN, Family Talk and Catholic Channel (perhaps among others?) with a clearly-defined Christian perspective.

It was SXM's programming decision to create and program these at-least-six channels, so please don't suggest that turning one (1) of them into Internet-only is a lack of "care". Christians were, and are, being "care"d for by SXM's programming quite substantially, to the point that I bet many other groups would LOVE to be "cared for" that well.

Thanks for your time,
Bram
