Retention reps--the people you are transferred to when you threaten to cancel--are paid incentives for keeping customers, or they're on a quota system. Either way, there are a certain number who lie and do not (and sometimes cannot, as with "auto-cancel") honor the offer you think you agreed to. Rogue reps who are out to maximize their income are a problem in every company like this. You have to protect yourself in this situation and keep checking things and for that reason you have to ask yourself if these special offers are worth the time and effort. If you want to cancel, cancel, and don't bite on a retention offer. |
Yes, this is pretty much it. The "cancellation" department's job is to NOT shut off radios. The only reason they have for ever giving you discounted or free service is your agreement to continue full-price service thereafter. An offer from this department of additional (free or discounted) service followed by deactivation is always going to be bogus.
The most efficient way to get subscriptions cancelled is to do it with the American-based sales & activations centers in the course of the same call where you're activating some other radio for paying service. It's an extra step for them, and one they're not specifically paid to do, but they should do it happily enough if you're starting service on another radio at the same time.
Don't let yourself get transferred overseas unless canceling a radio is the only thing you want to do. And then DO that. |
