| I think XM needs to add an Adult top 40 XM station to their lineup. An Adult top 40 station (basically a pop station without hip-hop and rap). KISS and Top 20 on 20 plays too much hip-hop for my taste and probably for others. |

Tell me about it. That is what I hate about mainstream Top 40, too much rap has polluted it. I remembered years agoi when Top 40 music use to be Top 40 and not 2/3 rap. I like Urban music, r&b and soul just hate rap music.
Mix does not play any rap athough they have sliped and played Outcast which is my point, too much of that garbage. The Blend does not play any rap at all and they are a soft ac. |

| Try the Mix these days. It's been sounding real good as of late, and I haven't heard any outkast being played anymore, let alone any of that soft ac crap too! Maybe they finally got the message. |

As the others have said, they already have one.
MIX - XM 22
A modern adult music channel that plays all the pop hits. |

Yeah, they should add a HOT AC staion to the lineup. Kinda like KBIG-FM out of LA. No rap. Maybe a couple crossover poppish hip hop songs. Just the pop hits. Here's a sample:
KBIG Playlist
Week of April 19, 2004
No Doubt - It's My Life
Outkast - Hey Ya!
Maroon 5 - This Love
Santana/Alex Band - Why Don't You & I
Seal - Love's Divine
Dido - White Flag
Cherie - I'm Ready
Melissa Etheridge - Breathe
Kimberly Locke - 8th World Wonder
Jessica Simpson - With You
Matchbox Twenty - Unwell
George Michael - Amazing
Britney Spears - Toxic
Blondie - Good Boys
In-Grid - You Promised Me
Widelife/Simone Denny - All Things (Just Keep Getting Better) |

i think that stuff there I hear on the mix.. except outkast which they got rid of it seems!! good riddence! the mix is one of my new favorites lately... sounds a lot better as someone else wrote on ehre!!!
i dont care that they won the award and all that.. i mean im just glad ONE channel in the hits list on xm does NOT play that damn HEEY YAAA all the time! if i want to hear it i know where i can go (just about anywhere but the mix! thanks xm!!) |

| what can I say, LA is where all the radio trends are set and then duplicated in the rest of the country. So its not unusual to use LA as the "bar" that XM needs to reach minus the commercials so the comparison to "K" whatever is only natural especially for people who live in the number one AD dollar generated market in the world. |

| But I think Bird's point is that XM already *has* its in-house equivalent of your KBIG-FM, and that's Mix 22. All of the artists and songs on that playlist you posted (with the possible exceptions of Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears, who are really a little too teeny-pop to belong on an AC format anyway, even if it's hot AC) can be heard on Mix. |

leonardo....
do you really thunk LA is where "the radio trends are set"? When i was in LA the radio stations sound exactly the same and as bad as here or anywhere else.. I don't have any idea where you come up with that ummm view.... but thats your opinion i suppose...
i just dont want to pay for anything that sounds remotely like fm or am.... i listen to these hits channels and there are few that do...
the mix the blend... they are really great and different than anything ehre in town and not only that they seem to be even better lately.. i am having trouble turning them off....

I agree. Mix and The Blend are a lot different than any FM AC station out there. The playlists are much deeper. I used to get bored to tears after listening to an FM AC channel for a few minutes, but I can listen to the XM ones for much longer.

Sounds like it's time to get a home unit. _________________ Classic Vinyl/Classic Rewind: Why have one great channel when you can have two crappy ones instead?

| Birdinthesky, what I state are facts and not my opinion. Having worked in LA radio for 20 years and watching the radio trends accross the country, its a known fact that radio trends start in LA. Back in the 80's KROQ started the whole new wave, punk rock trends in US radio and then into the 90's with the grunge/alternative rock trends. Star 98.7 started in LA and now you have a Star station in every state. In fact KIIS-FM was duplicated in every state as well with variations on how to spell KISS. If LA wasn't a trend setter, why would XM even have carried KIIS to begin with? Sounds like you are a rebel type listener and thats ok. "If it sounds like FM or AM, I don't want it on XM". It kinda reminds me of when I was in high school...the rockers would instantly hate a group just because it got airplay on a pop station. Like when Journey crossed over from AOR to CHR, they hated Journey. XM is a great additon to our over the air listening choices and is great for those listeners out there who don't have a lot of stations to choose from in their market unlike LA with almost 90 choices. And although i reside in the LA market, I enjoy the sound quality of XM no matter where I drive in Southern California. Yes commercial free is great but so is enjoying the great programs heard around this great Country of ours and it would be great if XM could pipe in the Top 10 stations in the country. Take care! |

1) "Having worked in LA Radio" - don't you think that would make you bias
2) I hate radio... nothing to you personally but the people that run radio stations dont know what they are doing.. 2 million people paying for satellite is a START and they arent wrong
3) The Kiss was taken off because nobody wanted to hear a radio station
4) i dont know what a star station is
5) LA has 90 choices and xm is good for small towns and not cities like LA is what i think you are saying... are you out of your mind... i bet those small places dont have the amount of commercials as big cities... and xm doent have 2 million people with it in topeka or wherever....
5) Oh YES YES YES... I am a "rebel type listener"... we all are... if I wasn't id pocket the 10 bucks a month and listen to the same junk that radio plays along with the ccommercials.... obviously EVERYONE is a "rebel".. and the rest soon will be!!
and sorry i dont know what half your post refers like when you say
something journey corssed and people hate it or something... I dont know whats wroing with journey they are fine.... what did they cross??
I don't mean to sound nasty or anything but for god sakes... why do the radio people always have to compare xm to a bad radio station... or any radio station.... and then talk alot of mumbo jumbo... no wonder radio is so bad..... the one thing i really hate about this system is the radio people that try to say radio is like good... please!
xm is unique.... if you don't feel that way, maybe you should visit fmfan.com.... |

1. No, not biased. Just stating the facts that can't be disputed.
2. Actually, XM is run alot like regular radio. They have playlists and requests etc. Just that XM is mostly commercial free seems to be the main difference. I am researching to see if they use a computer to run their music or if its played by a board op especially on stations without DJ's.
3. Actually I heard it was Clear Channel/XM decision to ax KIIS-Fm for KISS-XM. Can not confirm this one though.
4. You're lucky! Actually an example would be Star 98.7 in LA, Star 100.7 in San Diego or Star 102.7 in Salt Lake City. They just copy the format that is successful in other markets.
5. That's not what I was saying. I was saying its an excellent choice for small town people that only have like 2 stations and a great addition to someone like me in a market of 90 stations. Xm is great for anyone!
5?. That's awesome you are a rebel but I'm still not quite sure why you hate regular radio besides the commercials or bad DJ's in your town. What city/state are you in?
Regarding Journey, saying that they crossed-over just refers to that they were only played on AOR (Album Oriented Rock) stations previously and then one day they had a pop hit and started being played on top 40 stations. This angered the rock fans and they shunned Journey. They were just rebels I guess
As far as comparing XM to regular radio. Its only natural. In fact XM compares itself to radio as their selling point. Also, many people who were working in radio now work for XM.
As for me, I'm not saying regular radio is better than XM. I was just stating facts on radio trends. Perhaps one day XM will be the place that people will go to hear the hits first but for now, since the entire XM subscriber base is lower than the listening audience of just one station in LA or NYC, the record companies will take the new hits to commercial radio first. But I tell ya, I'd love XM to land a hit first and beat out regular radio.
Bird, I think we're on the same team in support of XM. I was just stating some stats. Anyway, take care and thanks for your posts! Look forward to seeing you on the board!!! XM RULES! Did I say that???...LOL... Take care Bird! |
