I was listening to the 70 top selling albums of the 1970's on channel 7 over Memorial Day weekend. Really enjoyed it, but I didn't get to hear which album came in at #1. I was driving home to Pennsylvania from Cincinnati, Ohio and reached home before they got to the top! Can anyone help me out here? I dying to know. Very Happy

I would have sworn it was Fleetwood Mac's Rumours.

How's that possible????

It came out late 1979!!!!

It would have to be 'Dark Side of the Moon', 'Rumours', 'Frampton Comes Alive' or 'Let It Be''.

I have no idea what sales chart they were looking at!!

It was definately the Wall. When one of the 70s jocks were on O&a last week, they gave a hint saying the album also was made into a movie. When I heard the countdown twice last weekend, the number one selling album was indeed the Wall.

I'm not positive as to how they did this, but I'm thinking that it's the #1 selling album that was released in the 70's.

I find it hard to believe that The Wall outsold Rumours. Or even Frampton Comes Alive. Everybody had that one. And what about Hotel California? I was the only one in my group that had The Wall.

The wall would have received twice the sales credits as single albums since it was a double album...same thing with Frampton

I think what would put The Wall over the top is that it has endured for so long. I was 7 years old when The Wall came out, but I have two copies--one on cassette and one on CD. I don't own any of the other albums mentioned in this thread.

How about BOSTON's sell-titled album? I remember that album doing really well.

The 1970's ended on December 31, 1980. Wink

#Rofl

It's terrible that I actually know what you're talking about. Wink I'll agree that the 198th decade A.D. ended on 12/31/1980. But I'll give them the pass when they say "the 70s." Very Happy

All the albums everyone's mentions were all in the top 10 if I remember the show correctly. I was a bit surprised that The Wall the top seller, too, but I have to admit everyone had a copy of it when it came out.
