I didn't see anywhere else to post this question, but here goes...

It does not seem to matter how many times I disable it, it always seem to pop back up again whenever I come back to the site.

Is there an additional "trick" to turning it off?

LOL. Good luck. This has been discussed many times before on many different threads. I have the same problem. It just won't go away.

I have never had a problem disabling the helper. The only time that it reappears is after I have deleted all my cookies. At that point I just disable it again. I also only have the security setting on my computer set for medium. I am not sure it that has anything to do with it or not.

Good luck.

I use Firefox, which lets me customize my cookies. I keep the cookies I want (like XMFan which keeps the helper disabled), and deletes the others. But Ryan would say Firefox sucks, so I guess you have to do a workaround. Either never delete any cookies (cuz we know thats safe), or just manually go into the cookies file and delete everything but the xmfan cookie. Check you cookie settings, the xmfan cookie might get deleted everytime you log off of IE.

I don't think my problem is cookies. The site automatically logs me on, so I know it keeps the cookies. I have NEVER been able to even temporarily disable the thing. I've pretty much given up on it.

I'm using IE at work, and I see only one XMFan cookie (I also have a XMFanstore cookie, but I also go to that site).

Well I nuked the cookies, and it just seems to come back.

Guess I'll live with it for now.

It's a piece of crap. Even if you do get it disabled, it will come back if you happen to right click somewhere. I have a spell checker installed in my Firefox installation that requires a right click to use it. It's totally useless due to the "helper" at this site.

I wish Ryan would just make it go away.

It is when you delete the cookie that the helper comes back. The cookie needs to be there for it to be disabled.

Gotcha. All I can say is that, for me, after I have deleted the cookies, the next time I visit I will get the helper. I simply click on the disable button and then I never see the helper again (until I delete cookies again).

Wish I could be of more help.

Just thinking outloud here, but I wonder if anyone has actually ever used the helper.
