For learning almost any version of the Chessmaster series would help you learn the game. You can also go over to the United States Chess Federation website and check out the beginners setion ( http://www.uschess.org/beginners/ ). This may also help you to learn the rules of the game.

Yeah I saw that. That and Fritz seem to be the most popluar. I think Chessmaster may be better for learning, or at least that what my preliminary research has found.
