Does anybody know the approximate # of subscribers to XM vs Sirius. As an XM subscriber and fan, I would like to use this information in an argument with a Sirius fan. Also whether Sirius at one time declared or was about to declare Chapter 11.
Any info would be appreciated.

XM has ~700,000 subs and Sirius has ~100,000. Sirius has never declared BK. _________________ www.xmfanstore.com - support your favorite music service and website! |

Actually, Sirius came very close to bankruptcy. They essentially diluted their common stocks 9 to 1. That means if you owned 9% of the company through common stocks prior to their recapitalization, after you ownly owned 1%.
In exchange for not declaring bankruptcy Sirius gave their rights to their broadcast licence to their bond holders. Yikes. If anyone is corporatly controlled (Or has the potential to be) it is Sirius.
XM still owns their broadcast licence.
The real difference is the subscriber growth. XM is growing at 2-4000 users per day (based on their quarterly reports). Sirius is growing at 2 - 400 per day.
Also Sirius started in the market 1 year before XM. XM simply made it to air a year ahead of Sirius. Sirius screwed up their first chipset which had some reception issues apparently. |

The last announced number of XM subscriptions was for the end of Q2. That number was 692,253. If the growth rate remains about the same, XM will break 750,000 before the end of this month.
On June 20, Sirius had 100,233 subscriptions. The full Q2 results will be announced next month. They should have received some late quarter boost with the introduction of a new PnP receiver. |

WTF Ziggy? That comment was not really needed.
Forecasts for the end of the year have XM at 1,000,000, and Sirius at 300,000.

Rosco, the Gay comment was a joke. Please take it as such. Just couldn't resist when someone said "came out".
For the record, I have nothing against anyones sexual preference and enjoy QAF on Showtime. Its one of my favorite shows.
As for the give up of its broadcast license in exchage for the re-financing, that is true. I will do some searching and find that info for you. _________________ www.xmfanstore.com

rosco, where do you get those sub predictions? XM management guidance is for 1.2, even the most bearish analysts are in the 1.1 area and it looks like the actual number should be closer to 1.4 given how its tracking.
sirius has announced their target is 300k. they were at about 66k at the end of Q1, including an indeterminate number of hertz rental cars, and 100k days before the end of Q2.
it is easier to track xm sub numbers because the company releases those like clockwork at the end of the quarter in addition to occasional milestons (i.e. 500k, 600k, and soon to be 1m). For Sirius, 100k is obviously a reportable milestone but I don't know that the next one isn't 200k? Maybe because they announced 100k just before the end of Q2 they don't feel compelled to tell you right away how they did a week or so later.
Personally, I don't see how they make 300k by year end. Delphi reported they sold 300k skyfis, it is ambitious to believe that the ever-delayed audiovox pnp plus kenwood pnp will do 200k in 6 mos., esp. since the audiovox pnp may not ship until august. Clearly it is more difficult to predict sirius subs given the more limited information we have about it. |

IMHO, I would think that the milestones would be like this:
100,000
250,000
500,000
750,000
1,000,000
1,500,000
2,000,000
5,000,000
10,000,000
25,000,000
50,000,000
100,000,000
500,000,000
1,000,000,000
ok maybe the last one will take a couple of years to hit! _________________ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

OK...gotcha. Quite a sense of humor there Zig.
And JML, WTF is your problem? You seem to want to discredit Sirius every chance you get. You must not be smart enough to realize that you should be cheering for Sirius, and hoping they succeed as well. If one goes down, the other may follow as well. The industry still needs a lot of help, and has a long way to go. Besides,, good competition will only keep XM on their toes to provide a better product.
Don't you get it yet? |

Easy there Rosco. JML's post contains factual information along with his personal opinion on year end targets. I don't see why you need to make a claim that he is trying to discredit Sirius. What is it about his post that you don't agree with and why? _________________ www.xmfanstore.com - support your favorite music service and website! |

why do you keeping taking everything against sirius very personal?
if you look at the top of your browser it says www.xmfan.com, i dont see anything up there that says sirius, meaning this is xm based discussion, at any sirius forum community i think they are putting xm down, why? because they think the product is better, its all in our and there personal oppinion, i love my xm radio and listen to it every chance i have, and i think ziggy can agree w/ me
so if you wanna talk sirius, go somewhere else _________________

yeah, if my sub information is wrong or incomplete, please let me know. my post was factual and neutral in tone. There was nothing flamey about it. The original poster had some kind of wager going about sub numbers. he's not the only one
i'm sorry if you perceive the facts to be unpleasant. but please be constructive if you want to criticize. |
